A vintage scale and statue in the lodge interior.

Pull off Western Ave on a Friday evening and you'll hear it before you see it: the low hum of conversation, the clink of glasses, the easy laughter of people who actually know each other's names. Lodge 1343 has been that kind of place for St. Johnsbury for generations. The building itself turns heads. Reviewers consistently mention the architecture, and for good reason: the hall carries the kind of craftsmanship that modern construction simply doesn't bother with anymore.

The lodge serves a wide circle. Members gather here for charitable work, social events, and the quiet satisfaction of belonging to something larger than themselves. Families rent the hall for dinners and memorials. Traveling Elks from as far as Viera, Florida have pulled into the parking lot for an overnight stay and left the next morning with new friends. That openness is not accidental. It is the whole point.

With a 4.7-star rating built on genuine word-of-mouth, Lodge 1343 earns its reputation the old-fashioned way: by treating every guest, member, or stranger passing through the Northeast Kingdom like they belong here.

What We Offer

The lodge offers a full-service bar and lounge where members and guests can unwind after a long day in the Northeast Kingdom. The atmosphere is unpretentious and genuinely welcoming, the kind of place where a conversation with a stranger turns into an hour you didn't plan on spending.

The banquet hall is available for private rentals and has hosted everything from memorial service dinners to family celebrations. Event coordinator Judi has earned specific praise for making out-of-state arrangements feel effortless, handling logistics so clients can focus on the people who matter. The space accommodates groups of meaningful size and brings architectural character that a hotel ballroom simply cannot replicate.

For traveling BPOE members, the lodge extends the kind of hospitality the Order is built on, including overnight parking accommodations for those making their way through Vermont. Membership inquiries are always welcome for those ready to get involved in a community that actually shows up.

"Just wanted to say thank you for allowing us as traveling Elks from Lodge 2817 Viera, Florida to camp overnight in your parking lot 😊 Enjoyed our conversations with everyone in the bar and great service Josse the bartender gave us. Interesting history about the Fairbanks Scale manufacturer Mansion the Lodge is at."

"We recently rented Elks lodge #1343 for a Memorial service dinner. I was arranging the dinner from out of state, but Judi made the whole process seamless. The building is very unique with beautiful architectural components. The banquet hall is accessible and spacious, with everything needed to host a buffet. The bathrooms were clean and comfortable. Although I am not a lodge member, the bartender in the members lounge was attentive and friendly to any of our guest ordering drinks from the bar. There is also an ATM in the vestibule just outside the hall which is convenient for the cash only bar. I would highly recommend the Elks lodge for a gathering of any kind."

The Elks gave America
Flag Day.

Long before it was a national observance, the Order set aside June 14th to honor the flag. Patriotism has always been one of our cardinal principles, and every lodge meeting still closes the same way it has for over a century.
